In conjunction with the up and coming All Wales enforcement campaign that North Wales Police will run for one week from 3rd February 2014 targeting young drivers a road safety event was held in local Colleges. The Gwynedd Môn Road Safety Partnership hired the services of Andy Grove and Kenny McDonald from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service with their latest innovative road safety resource the interactive van.
The van is divided in two, the main part of the van turns into a cinema where a road safety presentation is shown whilst the rear end of the van contains a driving simulator.
Recently Students from Coleg Meirion Dwyfor Pwllheli and Coleg Menai Llangefni attended a presentation in the van as well as taking part in the interactive driving simulator, both of which addressed the enforcing issues :
Distraction – peer pressure, mobile devices, in-car entertainment, external distractions, etc
Drink/drugs – both drivers and passengers
Dangerous and careless driving behaviour – also addressing anti-social behaviour
Road Safety Officers were on hand to promote the up and coming All Wales Enforcement Campaign to both pre and young drivers as well as discussing other road safety topics Students wished to discuss.
