Year 1 and 2 pupils from Ysgol Gynradd Brynaerau recently took part in the national Kerbcraft road safety scheme.

This scheme is aimed at teaching pupils aged between 5 and 7 years old how to cross the road safely and to assist young children to make the right choices as they integrate with traffic.

After completing of the scheme, the pupils were awarded with a certificate and a fluorescent bag and were introduced to Carys Ofalus, Gwynedd Council’s road safety character.

Shirley Williams from Gwynedd Council’s Transport and Countryside Service said:

“It’s extremely important that we raise children’s awareness of the importance of taking care on the road. This includes showing the children how to cross and walk safely on the road and teach them who can help them to cross the road safely. This scheme is one we’re proud to support.”

Kerbcraft is a Gwynedd Council scheme which is funded by the Welsh Government aimed at teaching children how to walk along the road safely, how to cross the road and how to cope with traffic.
